Description:
Redefining a familiar universe for a more modern time,
Star Trek: The Next Generation introduced Captain Jean-Luc Picard, the officers and crew of the
U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D, and the worlds of the twenty-fourth century to a new legion of
Star Trek ® fans. In the two decades since, viewers and readers have embraced these heroes, thrilled to their personal achievements, their shared victories, their passionate loves...and mourned their painful losses.

| In 2006, we were
invited by editor Marco Palmieri to pitch ideas for the upcoming
anthology The Sky's the Limit, celebrating the 20th anniversary
of Star Trek: The Next Generation with more than a dozen new
short stories. As it turned out, ours was to be the framing story, and
so it was something special. In the end, we came up with not one, but
two stories, linked by a common theme and the connection between their
main characters. Each story can be read on its own, but they provide
added pleasure if read in close sequence. Their titles are "Meet
With Triumph and Disaster" and "Trust Yourself When All Men
Doubt You", and they are about Thomas Halloway, the Enterprise's
first captain, and Jean-Luc Picard, respectively.
